Directory Submissions Without the Guesswork

Unlike content, citations do not need to be original – they need to be identical.

Building a Repeatable Routine

In other words, a directory entry is worth less than an editorial mention, but it is far easier to keep unambiguous. The system rewards agreement, not volume, which is why a hundred careless entries lose to twenty clean ones.

The pattern across audits is that the effort scales badly if it is left until a rebrand forces it, regardless of sector. Crucially, comparison sites compare the same fields across dozens of sources and weigh the agreement, more so after a move or a rebrand.

Why the Small Fields Decide the Ranking

  1. The short list. Simply as important, work from the aggregators outward, since fixing a source fixes everything downstream, at least in a competitive market.
  2. Before you review. On the other hand, begin by pulling every existing record into one sheet before changing anything.
  3. Fixing thin descriptions. Check by phone or postcode lookup, not by memory.
  4. What to keep. For that reason, keep a change log; six months on, nobody remembers which field was edited or why.
  5. On the record. Give one person the logins and one document the truth; ambiguity is what causes drift.

Why Discovery Apps Care About Agreement

Do

  • Taken together, prefer removing a wrong listing to leaving it half-corrected.
  • Fix the service area before touching anything decorative, give or take a reporting cycle.

Avoid

  • Most damage here is self-inflicted: a faulty website field introduced during a rebrand or a move.
  • Thin descriptions is easy to miss since nothing visibly breaks.
  • Where the person on reception has changed twice, expect silent listing decay somewhere in the profile.
  • A profile can look perfect on the surface and still carry contradictory data across sources underneath, if only since nobody else bothers.
